I have worked out in the past “very little” - always been afraid of the gym. It intimidated me. I have been asked by my wife now (very patiently) for the last 2 plus years to come and workout at Fuse with her. My ego has gotten in my way for the longest time. “I don't want to go to the gym and be embarrassed by a bunch of badass women and men.” “I can’t lift that much, I don’t know what I’m doing in there.”
This challenge was the perfect time for me to jump in. I am trying to switch careers and I need my body to function on all cylinders. My goals have started out pretty simple. I wanted to tone up and build a little muscle. I wanted to eat better (specific goals were to get 4-6 servings of veggies a day) and improve my flexibility.
With the help of Matt and Abby I was set on my way with a meal plan and all sorts of modifications for my very stiff body. I have been working out at 5 am five days a week for the entire challenge, and to be honest, I am loving it! Not only the 5 am’ers, but everyone at Fuse has been so awesome and supportive. I have realized that everyone is on their own fitness road and I just had to get my lazy ass in to the gym if I was ever going to start mine. It is, however, very humbling when those bad ass women are putting up more weight than I will probably ever feel safe lifting, but I’m ok with that. I am going to focus on my goals and my fitness and that’s it.
I am planning on continuing after this 6-week challenge with regular 5 am workouts so I can hit some of the goals I created. It is a pretty cool thing to do with my wife too, I’m just glad she never gave up on asking me to the gym!!
