When we workout or exercise we breakdown muscle which is good! We need to breakdown muscle so that we can build them stronger. HOWEVER…….
If the rate of synthesis exceeds the rate of breakdown, you gain muscle. When the rate of breakdown exceeds the rate of synthesis, you lose muscle.
When you workout or exercise you break down a lot of muscle!
A few weeks ago we talked about getting 1 gram of protein per pound of lean mass which is very important. Last week we talked about about the quality, and timing of carbs. For some people this is a struggle, and for some people who workout a lot getting enough quality calories is difficult.
So how can BCAA's help?
BCAA’s (particularly leucine – the key that starts the car) stimulate protein synthesis to a greater extent than a normal protein on its own. BCAAs also increase synthesis of the cellular machinery responsible for carrying out the process of protein synthesis. Thus, BCAAs not only increase the rate of protein synthesis, but they also increase the cell's capacity for protein synthesis!
In short, BCAA's help prevent muscle breakdown AND they help build lean muscle!
