BCAA's - The Key That Starts "Your" Metabolism

Who doesn't love a tough workout? That awesome sensation where you feel the remnants of each and every lunge as you try to tackle stairs....it's the best!!

When we work out or exercise we break down muscle, which is good! We need to break down muscles so that we can build them stronger. HOWEVER…….

If the rate of synthesis exceeds the rate of breakdown, you gain muscle. When the rate of breakdown exceeds the rate of synthesis, you lose muscle.

When you train hard (lifting, biking, running, sports training), you break down a lot of muscle, so you need to ensure that you stimulate protein synthesis to a greater extent than your body would do on its own. Otherwise you could lose muscle in the process!

Here's where Branch Chain Amino Acids come in:

BCAA’s (particularly leucine) act like the key that starts the car and they also expand the gas tank. They do this by stimulating protein synthesis to a greater extent than a normal protein would on its own. They also increase the cell's capacity for protein synthesis. To translate, they help prevent muscle breakdown, and they increase the rate of protein absorption in order to build muscle, and then burn more fat!

In addition to BCAA's, there are a number of factors that affect absorption, including protein and veggie consumption, water and fiber intake, sleep, stress, timing, gut health, etc. BCAA’s help to prevent muscle breakdown, help us build muscle, and help us burn fat, and that’s a good thing!

Huh?

To summarize:

BCAA’s not only help prevent muscle breakdown, they actually help increase the rate of protein absorption, which helps us build muscle, which helps us burn more fat! Even if we are eating lots of protein and veggies (or should be), there are other factors that affect absorption including water and fiber intake, sleep, stress, timing, gut health, etc. BCAA’s help to prevent muscle breakdown, help us build muscle, and help us burn fat, and that’s a good thing!

Here at Fuse Fitness Coaching we have two products that contain BCAA’s:

1.SPARK is in a powder form and contains a small amount of caffeine that we recommend taking before your workouts or as an afternoon energy boost.
